Identity Development

Erikson's stage of psychosocial development that occurs during adolescence is Identity vs. Role Confusion. This stage is characterized by the adolescent's struggle to establish a sense of identity and develop a sense of self, while also fitting into society and establishing their role in it.

Identity development is the process of developing a stable and coherent sense of self, including one's values, beliefs, and personality traits. This process involves exploring and experimenting with different roles and identities, and integrating these experiences into a cohesive sense of self.

The factors that influence identity development include personality, family, peer-group, school, community, and larger society. Occupation is not a factor that directly influences identity development but may be a part of an individual's identity once established.

James Marcia's theory of identity development describes four stages of identity formation: identity diffusion, identity foreclosure, identity moratorium, and identity achievement. Identity achievement is the final stage where individuals have explored various identity options and have established a stable sense of self.

Gender identity refers to an individual's internal sense of being male, female, both, or neither. It is not necessarily related to an individual's biological sex or the gender roles and stereotypes associated with that sex.

James Marcia proposed the Path to Identity, which outlines the four stages of identity development: identity diffusion, identity foreclosure, identity moratorium, and identity achievement.

Personality, family, peer-group, school, and community/larger society are all factors that can influence identity development. Geography is not a significant factor.

Gender identity refers to an individual's sense of being male, female, or something else. It is the way a person sees themselves in terms of their gender, rather than the roles, behaviors, or expectations associated with that gender.
