The proximal convoluted tubule (PCT) is the first part of the renal tubule and it is responsible for the majority of reabsorption in the nephron. Here, about 65% of the glomerular filtrate is reabsorbed, including glucose, amino acids, ions, and water. The PCT is highly convoluted and lined with microvilli to increase the surface area for reabsorption. The loop of Henle and distal convoluted tubule also play a role in reabsorption, but to a lesser extent than the PCT. The glomerulus, on the other hand, is responsible for filtration rather than reabsorption.
